226. EyeriesNorth of Castletownbere, a small village a little back from the coast. Near it to the east, at Ballycrovane, is the tallest Ogham Stone in Ireland - a slender pillar 17.5 feet (5.18m) high, with the inscription 'Magi decceddas avi turiani as' which translates as 'Of the Son of Deich descendant of Torainn'. Experts point out that the lettering at the top of the pillar is awkwardly placed which probably means that the stone was already in situ when the inscription was cut, having been erected long before. Access is a bit difficult as it stands on private property and is not signposted, but it can be seen standing impressively against the sky from the road.
