Blarney Castle, and the magic Blarney Stone with its traditional power of conferring eloquence on those who kiss it, are world famous. 198. Cape Clear Island

South-west of Sherkin is the larger Cape Clear Island (daily ferry from Baltimore, details available locally). Its inhabitants retain the Irish language and traditions. From its cliffs and headlands there are striking coastal views. The ruins of Dunamore Castle-a stronghold of the once powerful rulers of the island, the O' Driscolls-stand precariously on a rock on the north-west side of the island. To the south-west is Ireland's most southerly point, the solitary Fastnet Rock with its lighthouse.

Famous for its pottery, carrigaline is one of three satellite towns built around Cork City. It is the largest in the Owenabue Valley, offering the visitor a very comprehensive range of services and facilities. Currabinny Forest Trail is just a short distance east of Carrigaline and represents one of many scenic walks in Carrigaline and its environs.
