Glengariff is on the Beara Peninsula, most westerly of the long peninsulas of Cork. For over 30 miles (48 km) it stretches south-westwards between Bantry Bay and the Kenmare River estuary. It is almost entirely mountainous, except for a narrow coastal strip of lowland.
