335. Ringaskiddy
|
Formerly a fishing village with century old traditions in Gaelic games and drama, Ringaskiddy has been transformed into a modern deepwater ferryport, offering easy access to the beauty spots of Cork and Kerry through a fast developing road network. The ferry terminal has excellent facilities and B & B accommodation is available locally. The Post Office has an inbuilt Bureau de Change and Tourist Information Centre.
In times past and as part of the harbour defences against invasion by Napoleon, the English built a Martello Tower in 1804 which still stands above the village in view of the offshore islands of Haulbowline and Spike.
